In order to improve the speed of VMware,
I recommend to switch off the Windows Audio and other hardware device.
How to disable the Sound in windows server 2003
Start > Run > Type "Serveices.msc" then click Enter
Find the "Windows Audio " Services > Properties ---> Select Disable.
